The 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet by Pinin Farina is one of the most beautiful automobiles ever produced, occupying a unique place in the history of coachbuilding and automotive engineering. Built on the short-wheelbase Super Sport chassis, this vehicle is the last of three post-war Pinin Farina-bodied special cabriolets and was accepted to the 2020 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, although it has yet to make its major concours debut.

Alfa Romeo engaged the finest artisans and craftsmen to build handmade automobiles to an impossibly high level. The company's six and eight-cylinder engines, unveiled by Vittorio Jano in 1923, became legendary for their power and reliability, leading to numerous racing victories, including the first World Championship in 1925. However, this pursuit of perfection came at a great cost, and by 1933, the company was on the verge of financial ruin, prompting the Italian government to intervene and take control of Alfa Romeo.

This 1949 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Cabriolet was delivered new to Count Goffredo Zehender, a pre-war racing legend and Alfa Romeo factory racing team member. The vehicle features a unique front fascia, lower profile grille, and dramatic hood-to-fender curvature, making it one of only three or four examples with this design. The car has undergone a comprehensive seven-year restoration, addressing every detail and finish to ensure authenticity and quality, including a rebuild of the correct in-line six-cylinder engine and meticulous fabrication of the exhaust system.

The restoration process, which began in 2013, involved expert European craftsmen and specialists from various countries, including Belgium, Germany, Sweden, and Norway. The car was refinished in grigio metallizzato, with new chrome for the brightwork and careful refinishing for the complex 98-piece grille. The interior features expertly stitched and fitted forest green leather hides and a sage green convertible top. Despite being accepted to the 2020 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the car has yet to be exhibited due to COVID-19 restrictions and travel limitations.
