Overview

Introduction

The 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 Coupe is a rare opportunity, with only one owner since new and a mere 2,500 miles on the odometer. This Corvette ZR-1 represents the absolute pinnacle of Corvette performance in the 1990s.

Special Performance Package (ZR-1)

The ZR-1 was exclusively available as a coupe in 1990 and featured extensive performance upgrades compared to the base Corvette model. These upgrades include unique body parts, special Goodyear Z-rated P315/35ZR17 tires on 11-inch wide rear wheels, selective ride and handling electronic suspension, a six-speed manual transmission, leather sport seats, and a Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with CD player and tire pressure warning system.

LT5 Engine and Technical Features

The legendary LT5 V8 engine, developed by Chevrolet/Lotus and hand-assembled by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, Oklahoma, powers the ZR-1. The engine features 32 valves, four overhead camshafts, and a 5.7-liter displacement, producing 375 horsepower. The LT5 engine also features extensive use of aluminum to avoid the EPA's 'gas guzzler' tax. Additionally, the 1990 model year saw improvements to the ABS and yaw-control systems, as well as a six-speed transmission designed in collaboration with ZF Friedrichshafen (Germany) and tire pressure sensors with signals to the instrument panel.

Provenance and Significance

This ZR-1 is an original, unrestored example with only 2,500 miles and a single owner since new. It retains all its original ZR-1 specifications, making it a unique piece of American automotive history and one of the most sought-after 'King of the Hill' ZR-1s available.
