Overview
Introduction
The 1962 Porsche 356B 'Twin Grille' Roadster is a rare and highly sought-after model, with only 248 examples built by Belgium coachwork maker D’leteren Freres. This particular vehicle boasts a numbers-matching engine and transmission, as confirmed by its Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
History and Provenance
Completed on December 28th, 1961, this 356B 'Twin Grille' Roadster was originally distributed via Porsche Car Pacific of San Francisco. It was purchased by Robert Wilson of Seattle in July 1969, who intended to restore it but unfortunately passed away before doing so. The vehicle then changed hands several times, eventually undergoing a comprehensive restoration by Automobile Associates of Canton between 2003 and 2006.
The restoration was carried out with no expenses spared, and the vehicle was returned to its original Slate Grey color with a green leather interior. The original engine was increased in size to 1,750cc and fitted with an SC cam for improved performance. The vehicle has since been meticulously maintained, with annual servicing and minimal mileage accumulation.
Restoration and Condition
The restoration of this 356B 'Twin Grille' Roadster was a painstaking process, with every detail addressed to ensure the vehicle's authenticity and driveability. The body was stripped to its bare metal tub, revealing no signs of accident damage and retaining all its original panels. The vehicle's interior and exterior were meticulously refurbished, with careful attention paid to period-correct details.
Today, the vehicle presents in exquisite condition, with a stunning Slate Grey finish and immaculate green leather interior. The 'Canepa Difference' process was applied upon the vehicle's return to Canepa, ensuring that every aspect of the vehicle meets the highest standards of quality and authenticity.
Ownership and Significance
This 1962 Porsche 356B 'Twin Grille' Roadster has been owned by several notable collectors, including Sam Mann, a four-time Best of Show winner at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Its rarity, exceptional restoration, and prestigious ownership make it a truly special vehicle, worthy of inclusion in any distinguished automotive collection.
